Percy Jackson & the Olympians and its spin-off series, The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan - Published by Hyperion
These books are a lot of fun. Rick Riordan really knows how to continue a series and keep it fun. Too often a series will start to suck or go off in strange directions and no longer become enjoyable. Not so with Percy Jackson. The first series was great and stayed great throughout all five books. The Heroes of Olympus goes off in a really interesting direction and is a great follow-up. It’s too bad Mr. Riordan only puts out one of these books a year.

6 Centuries later…
Retracing the footsteps of the town of Hamelin .the eye-witness of that great man who remains the legend even after 6 centuries.
The poor lame man, who acted as an antibiotic to thousands of mother by getting them back to their children. This act of his was a blessing in disguise and gave a new sense of living to the Town Of Hamelin. Looking Forward after the great revolution. The town of Hamelin now a breathe taking destination with the manifest nature . Moreover, The people of Hamelin now realize that ‘ Hard work pays off’ and in the remembrance of that ‘poor lame boy’they have built a statue. In addition , They celebrate a function in his honour which refreshes the early winds of Hamelin.
Honesty and sound judgment are the two features that keep ‘The town Of Hamelin’
Highlighted.

The council’s decision: what Islam says about it
Our mayor has been known for his immediate decisions and his council has always tackled every problematic case well. But, the recent situation, where the pied piper was denied his promise of a thousand euros made by the council, it has put up a question in many of the townspeople’s’ minds: Was his decision correct? Well, let’s look at what Islam says about the situation:
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) has said: “The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks his promise and when he is entrusted he betrays the trust.”
Pondering over the above hadeeth shareef, breaking a promise is the act of a hypocrite. Now, most of us can agree that the council members cannot be called ‘hypocrites’ so they must repent sincerely to Allah.
The Qur’an says: “As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in power.”
As we all know, the pied piper has, in another way, committed ‘stealing’ because he has taken our children, our most loved possessions, away from us. Regarding the above ayah, the punishment is severe but it is up to the council to decide on the ruling.
In the end, this is what Islam has to say on the situation and we hope the council takes a wise ruling under the shari’ah.

Pesticidal Adversary
7 billion, there are 7 billion of us, so one could easily guess that an increment in food production was at hand. This necessitated the use of various pesticides and artificial fertilizers. The ‘green revolution’ as some call it, at first, proved to be a huge, positive, leap in the antediluvian occupation of agriculture. Fields were swarmed with heaps of crops, which were only outmatched by the healthy cattle and other livestock. Barren lands and fallow fields were rejuvenated by the minerals parted by these chemicals. However it was just a matter of time before the gaps in this ‘master plan’ began to surface. Thousands of minor aquatic bodies were overtaken by green algae, causing destruction to these miniature ecosystems. All due to the leaching of excess nutrients. Well, all in all, this issue still remains actively controversial as some groups argue that the risks are worth the rewards, or are they???

A poetry about Rats
An ode to rats
They run from cats
And eat cheeses out of the vats
And bite the babies in the cradles
And licked the soup from cooks own ladles
They made nests inside men’s hats
And destroyed women’s chats
Rats are always poking, always peeking
Climbing,jumping,sometimes squeaking
Twicthing whiskers,running faces
Hiding in the strangest places
Nibbling here and nibbling there
Always finds some time to spare
Rats climb up,rats climb down,
They are such a crazy clown
But whatever we say,
Folks can have their cats and dogs,
Horses snakes and even frogs
For me rat stands out from the rest
There is certainly no doubt, rats are the best!

And this happened next…
The pied piper sat among the children, who were busy playing with each other. “Was it really worth it? Could I be keeping these children away from their parents because of the council‘s selfishness? ”these questions where pondering over the pied piper. Ultimately, he decided to re-visit the Mayor, he gave a blow to his flute as he left the cave to make the children fall in to a daze. As he approached the town the hustle and bustle of the town had been silenced due to the disappearance of the children he when straight to the council: the Mayor was who he needed. As he knocked the oak door and entered, he found that the whole council was still investigating the case. The presence of the pied piper was not ignorable and for a moment, the hall was filled with serenity. Then, the Mayor suddenly burst out in anger over the piper demanding the children back. To this, the pied piper calmly replied, “Accept your mistake in front of the town and the children will be with you.” The Mayor replied, “Huh, you think we will ever do that?”, “Yes we will “intervene the other council members. They went outside apologized in front of the public. However, in pressure from the dwellers of the town ,the mayor had to apologize in front of the public in great embarrassment which taught him a lesson. The children were back by noon , very vibrant and the once serene town was now rejoicing . The town’s people offered to pay on behalf of the council but the pied piper did not accept their generous gift . He lived in the town together with the people happily ever after…

The Black death
The plague started in China and made its way west across Asia to the Black Sea by 1347. Coming out of the East, the Black Death reached the shores of Italy in the spring of 1348 unleashing a rampage of death across Europe unprecedented in recorded history. By the time the epidemic played itself out three years later, anywhere between 25% and 50% of Europe’s population had fallen victim to the pestilence.
The symptoms were not the same as in the East, where a gush of blood from the nose was the plain sign of inevitable death; but it began both in men and women with certain swellings in the groin or under the armpit. They grew to the size of a small apple or an egg, more or less, and were vulgarly called tumours. In a short space of time these tumours spread from the two parts named all over the body. Soon after this the symptoms changed and black or purple spots appeared on the arms or thighs or any other part of the body, sometimes a few large ones, sometimes many little ones. These spots were a certain sign of death. No doctor’s advice, no medicine could overcome or alleviate this disease, an enormous number of ignorant men and women set up as doctors in addition to those who were trained. Either the disease was such that no treatment was possible or the doctors were so ignorant that they did not know what caused it, and consequently could not administer the proper remedy. In any case very few recovered; most people died within about three days of the appearance of the tumours described above, most of them without any fever or other symptoms. The violence of this disease was such that the sick communicated it to the healthy that came near them, just as a fire catches anything dry or oily near it. To decrease the spread of this virus furthermore in the body most people used to wash the sick with vinegar and rose water. Last but not the least, researchers say that The Black Death, which killed 23m people in the middle ages, could be lying dormant and could strike again

BROKEN PROMISE
Honoring promises is high on my list of requirements in being a person of integrity. Basically, whenever someone fails to follow through on a promise (with the exception of giving a reasonable excuse for backing out on their word) it registers as a betrayal.
Whenever I’ve had a promise made to me broken it has affected me adversely. If you’ve ever been stood up then you understand where I’m coming from. No one likes to be forgotten or dumped upon. Frankly, it hurts!
My first memory of being the recipient of a broken promise was as a child. My elder brother wanted me to clean his room and I wanted to hang out with my friends but I needed money. My parents were not willing to give me money, so I had to make a deal with my brother. We made a brother pact. He promised he would lend me money if I cleaned his room first. He set up his PC and started to work on his project and I played along my role which was to clean his room mainly. Finally, after it seemed like a day of hard work the room was spick and span. As soon I was done with his work, he refused to give me money. I was completely heart-broken and I really needed the money! I had to go out with my friends to a sports club. I felt betrayed and considered him as a liar. He merely shrugged his shoulders and said he had changed his mind. Most of all, he was broke. In my opinion he was a bargain breaker and I wasn’t about to let him get away with it.

The ruckus I was making got my mother involved in stopping our argument. This was good I thought as I was certain that mom would make my brother honor his word. But I was wrong; Mom simply told us to stop fighting with each other and try to get along better. Mainly, she took my brother’s side.
Well, that just wasn’t fair! I eventually stopped holding a grudge against my brother, but I did learn not to do trust him anymore.

Personally, I’d rather be told no in the first place. I would respect the honest response. It is worse to have someone back out on you at the last minute with some lame excuse. If you face with the individuals who ‘Can’t Say No’ then please try to understand that you are not doing anyone any favor by forever bending backwards to please others. Those entire ‘Yes promises’ are eventually going to cause you to back out of a commitment. And when this happens you will lose the trust of the very person you were trying to please.
